Terms of use

The wire publishes so that it will be reproduced. These terms set out the licence we grant over release text, the narrower licence over photography and marks, and the small number of things we ask in return.

The short version. Take the releases. Reproduce them freely, credit the wire, keep the release ID, and do not misrepresent what we said. The longer text below only explains that in the language our lawyers prefer.

1. Scope

These terms govern your use of this site and everything distributed through it: release text, feeds, photography, marks, documents and the archive. By using any of it you accept these terms; if you do not accept them, do not use the wire.

2. Reproduction of releases

We grant every person a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable licence to copy, quote, translate, broadcast, index and redistribute the text of any release, in whole or in part, in any medium, on these conditions:

  • Attribute the source. State “Montlior Wire” or “distributed by Montlior Wire” in the body, credit line or on-screen caption.
  • Retain the release ID. Where you reproduce a release substantially in full, keep its identifier so a reader can find the original.
  • Do not alter quotations or figures. You may cut, summarise and rewrite around a release. You may not change what a named person is quoted as saying, or alter a number, date or statistic.
  • Do not present an edit as the whole. If you have shortened a release substantially, make that clear.

Corrections

Where we issue a correction, we do so under a new release ID that references the original, and the original remains available, marked. If you have already published from a release that we later correct, we ask — but do not require — that you carry the correction with the same prominence.

3. Photography, marks and other assets

Assets in the media kit are made available under a narrower licence than release text. You may use them in news reporting, commentary, analysis or criticism concerning the group, credited to the group, cropped or resized as your layout requires.

  • No asset may be used in advertising, promotion, merchandising or fundraising.
  • Photography may not be composited, retouched or materially altered, or used to illustrate a subject it does not depict.
  • The nameplate may not be rebuilt, recoloured, rotated or set in another typeface.
  • No mark may be placed so as to suggest partnership, sponsorship, approval or endorsement.

4. Feeds and automated access

The feeds are public, unauthenticated and free. You may ingest them into a newsroom system, a reader, an index or an archive. We ask only that you poll no more often than every five minutes, send a user agent that identifies your organisation, and respect cache headers.

5. Embargoes

Where material is supplied under embargo, the lift time stated on it is a term of these terms and binds you on receipt. Opening embargoed material constitutes acceptance.

6. Acceptable use

You must not use the wire to break the law, to impersonate the group or any person named on it, to distribute malware, to circumvent access controls on embargoed material, or to fabricate a release.

7. Third-party material

Some releases are issued on behalf of public bodies that use the wire for regulatory disclosure. Those releases are the responsibility of the issuing body. Links to third-party sites are provided for reference; we do not control and do not endorse them.

8. No warranty

Releases are published in good faith and represent our understanding at the moment of issue. Beyond that, the wire is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, or that information will remain current after issue.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or loss arising from your reliance on a release after it has been corrected or withdrawn.

10. Changes

We may amend these terms. The version in force is the one on this page, with its date at the top. Material changes are announced on the wire as a release, with a release ID — because a wire service that changed its terms quietly would be a poor advertisement for itself.

11. Law and contact

These terms are governed by the law of Coravia, and the courts of Meridale have exclusive jurisdiction. Questions, complaints and requests for a right of reply go to legal@montliorgroup.com or to Group Legal, Montlior Group plc, 1 Athenaeum Row, Meridale MD1 4200, Coravia.
